Sal: Santa Maria and Kite Beach

Santa Maria is the classic Cape Verde beach: 8 km of golden sand with a walkable resort town, restaurants, watersports and reliably calm swimming near the pier. Nearby Kite Beach is where Sal's kitesurfers gather. Sal is the easiest island if you want a beach holiday with life around it.
Boa Vista: Santa Monica, Chaves and Sal Rei

Santa Monica is often called the most beautiful beach in Cape Verde — over 30 km of empty white sand — but strong currents mean it's for walking, not swimming. Praia de Chaves is broad and lovely, while the sheltered bay at Sal Rei is the island's safest swim.
Maio: Ponta Preta and total emptiness
Maio's beaches are the quietest in the country — kilometre after kilometre of pale sand with almost nobody on them. Ponta Preta is the star. Bring your own water and shade: there are no facilities at all.
Santiago: Tarrafal
Tarrafal, in the north of Santiago, has a sheltered crescent of palm-fringed sand with calm, clear water — widely rated the best swimming beach on the island and a lovely day out from Praia.
São Vicente: Laginha and Baía das Gatas
Laginha sits right in Mindelo for an easy city swim, while Baía das Gatas has a reef-protected lagoon that's the calmest water on the island — and hosts a famous August music festival.
Swimming: the short version
The most beautiful beach is not always the one to swim from. As a rule, swim in sheltered bays and in front of towns, such as Santa Maria on Sal, Sal Rei on Boa Vista, Tarrafal on Santiago and Laginha in Mindelo, and treat the wild open-ocean beaches as walks. Most of the coast has no lifeguards.

Can you swim at all Cape Verde beaches?
