What an affiliate link is
An affiliate link is a tracked link to a travel company, such as a tour operator, a hotel booking site, a car rental company or an excursion provider. If you click one and then book within the period set by that company, we may earn a small commission.
You never pay more because you used our link. The price is exactly the same as going to the company directly, and the commission is paid by the company, not by you.
Who we may work with
We take part in affiliate programmes run by travel companies and by the networks that manage them. At the moment that means GetYourGuide, whose tours and excursions we link to from our island and activity guides. Those links are marked with an arrow (↗) and carry a sponsored tag, and every block of tours on this site says so in plain English underneath. We may add accommodation and car-hire programmes later, and this page will say so when we do. We only link to companies we would be comfortable recommending to a friend planning a trip to Cape Verde.
How we keep our advice independent
Commission never decides what we write. In practice, that means:
- No company can pay to be included in a guide or to get a better review.
- We link to free and non-commercial options too, such as official websites, ferry operators and airlines, whenever they are the most useful choice.
- We keep telling you about the downsides: strong currents, isolated resorts, windy months or islands that may not suit your trip.
- If a company we link to stops being a good choice, we remove the link.
How to recognise affiliate links
Affiliate links appear in the normal text of our guides and on buttons such as “check prices” or “see availability”. Where a page contains affiliate links, it points to this disclosure.
Cookies and your privacy
When you click an affiliate link, the travel company or its affiliate network may place a cookie on their website to record that you came from us. We do not receive your name, contact details or payment details. Read more in our privacy policy.
